I'm pretty sure there's no such thing as USB 1.5.5. You're probably thinking of USB 1.1. Any USB drive should work, hard or flash, it'll just run at very poor speeds. Assuming you're using OS X, you should be able to keep the drive's current format if it's the common FAT32 or the Mac OS standard HFS+. You'd only need to reformat the drive if it is formatted as NTFS. If you've got OS 9 I don't have much help for you in the formatting area.
