I never heard about usb 1.5.5, but 1.1 or 2.0 and now 3 ...
back to wally, usually you need a pcmcia adapter to connect usb, most of them are 1.1 but I bought on ebay from a (cheap) chinese vendor a pcmcia adapter with 4 port 2.0.
but if you have MacOS 9 you need an installation "ad hoc" including usb drivers (present on install disk but not installing with default installation) otherwise you connect any usb device and nothing happens.
lombard and pismo have their usb port.
