I have a G4 800MHz TiBook that produces three short 'hissing " sounds instead of the chime on startup. I know this is an alert sound similar to the beeps,
Does anyone know what this means?

Never heard a PB hiss! Perhaps they're error beeps but something is foo with the audio too?

I think (not positive) that three beeps means that none of the memory slots passed the self-test. This is different from one beep or a breaking glass sound, with indicates that no RAM was detected.

Try zapping the pram, removing the memory, etc.
