Hello- Since last week's crash of my Pismo and my new install of OSX 10.4.11 and all the updates,it's working well except for one thing: If I plug in a USB thumb drive, it does not show up.Another thumb drive, nothing. I have a floppy disc player (for my really old digital camera)and that has a USB plug; it doesn't show up either. It used to. And I'd download pics onto the desktop of the computer this way.
I have another laptop, an iBook G3, which reads these thumb drives, and the old floppy disc reader. I have checked System Profiler for these drives; they are not there. They are not in the Finder window. They are not listed as drives in the Disk Utility. In Finder Preferences, I have all the boxes checked to show (HD, Disk,IPOD, etc)..but "External Drives" is not there to check. Maybe that's on 10.5 Leopard, but it's not on my 10.4.11 pismo. Other than doing all the Verify Permissions and Repair Permissions stuff, is there some driver I missed downloading which will enable the Pismo to recognize its own USB ports? I tried to download some usb/audio sofware but that site is no longer, and Apple's de-bugging usb software page wants me to be a registered member ($$$) or a technician. Does sticking a thumb drive in (with a harmless file on it) and re-starting the Pismo whileholding down "c" or something... will that force it to boot up and recognize the usb port? Is there downloadable basic software which makes a Mac read a USB port? thanks, steve -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Books, a group for those using G3 iBooks and PowerBooks (we run a separate list for G4 'Books).
