Have you tried XPostFacto?
I have OS-X Tiger 10.4.11 running on Series 3 Wallstreets (PDQ).
Way better than Panther for speed, stability, and compatibility with 
later software.

I think Lombards can also benefit from XPostFacto to install later 
versions of OS-X?
