If you have a native Firewire drive, it -might- be faster..... but just about every firewire drive out there is really an IDE drive with a firewire bridge. As it is.... since the internal drive is IDE, and most (all?) firewire drives are IDE.... it's pretty much a draw. The internal drive is still on when you boot to another drive, so it'll still be generating heat, too.
