Thank you all for answers Problem solved Went for Jeremy Derr suggestion "perform a clean install" from an old 9.0 CD (from the "options" button on the Select a Destination Disk screen) then Customized the install and turned of EVERYTHING except the Language Kit Restart had the symbols showing in email etc. Thanks again
