As a follow-up, you may also want to delete these files (they're
self-generating by the OS) also stores in the user/library folder:

Sapplications
LSClaimedTypes
LSSchemes
.LSApplications_Backup
.LSClaimedTypes_Backup
.LSSchemes_Backup

The last 3 are invisible, as the period before their name denotes. You'll
need to use either the terminal (I can send directions on how to do this
offlist if you need) or a utility like snax or tinkertool to temporarily
make invisible files show up.

Actually, I'd probably delete those 6 first and then the
"com.apple.LaunchServices.plist" if it doesn't help, and as always its a
smart idea to backup the files you are going to delete in case things go
wonky.
