> Has anyone experienced failure of the Firewire ports on their TiBook?

I did... Twice actually. If you check the apple archives, it's one of the
most common tibook failures. I did a bunch of research into it for awhile.

>From compiling information it seemed to have something to do with it being
"blown out". Essentially, the firewire port is powered- but not powered very
much and there is nothing stopping any device from "pulling too much".

Ie, if you just plug in an ipod you wont have any problems. But some devices
which are work fine on bus power (certain hard drives, or writers from
lacie) on a desktop need a power adapter as the powerbook just doesnt
provide enough power. Or if you have a bunch of hard drives hooked up and
the power to them goes- they will try to draw power from the powerbook and
it'll cause problems.

There were other situations where they stopped working also, but the biggest
culprit seemed to be in it not providing enough power for all devices, and
then blowing out from trying.

Well, the biggest thing you can do is check your cable. A lot of devices
ship with el cheapo cables which go bad after awhile. If you have another
comp to try the device on, that'll let you know.

It's a pretty expensive fix without applecare, requiring a motherboard
replacement.

If you don't have your head up your ass at least once a day on at least one
topic, then you should be donating as much genetic material as humanly
possible. The big difference between most people is realizing that you see a
pollop instead of an answer and then moving on.

> Also, who has been here since 1999? Do you
> remember me being on the powerbook list? Just curious.

It doesn't really matter, does it? If you were, chances are you weren't
subscribed under the same email. I've been on this and other lists for
years, but usually not under the same email addy so people would think the
same if they checked up...

I don't think most people care one way or the other... As it doesn't change
your value to the list one way or the other.
