I don't own any Apple stock but I am an early adopter of .Mac, I had an
account under iTools that I rarely used because I was on a dial-up ISP and
the iDisk was basicly useless. That changed in July when I got a cable
modem, with high speed access I feel the service is worth the $49 I had to
pay this year; as for next we will have to wait and see. I've used some the
100 free 4 X 6 photo coupons to get some prints made and they came out
great. I've got some family pictures up on the web site and it's nice to be
able to share this way. All in all I'm satisfied with the service, but I
would hesitate to recommend it to someone on a dial-up internet connection
simply because of the speed issue.

There is no way iDisk will be of any use on dial-up, I tried it and gave up
because it was impossible to move any files of substance over a modem
connection. Doing back-up would be impossible, there are far better
alternatives to backing up than with iDisk. Besides they give you 100 MB of
space and most people are using drives in the 10 to 100 Gig range. I guess
it really boils down to your connection speed; if you have DSL or cable .Mac
can be a nice addition to a digital lifestyle, I just think with a slower
connection that you will be limited with what you can do with it.

I didn't comment on the use of iCal and iSync with it, because I have yet to
get a handle on using them in a practical way.
