Well, since you already have put money into this 
machine, it would preserve your "investments" for 
awhile longer. 

OS X runs noticeably better on a G4 processor, even
without the benefit of Quartz Extreme.

Now, if I felt that the current offerings of PowerBooks
had some of the advantages of the Pismo, I'd say go for 
the new stuff. But I like the expansion bays; so I'm
holding out for the G5 (Motorola or IBM) and would like
to make my Pismo still useful for as long as feasible.

In this scenario, the CPU upgrade might be the very last
one you'd make on this machine.

ASIDE: Come on Apple, give us a real reason to buy new
  systems! In many cases, from my perspective some of the
  older systems offer more (or are not worth the $$) than
  the newest systems.

  Either dump Motorola, buy their CPU unit, or move onto 
  another vendor. I'm tired of "CPU envy" and can't wait
  for systems to fully use the DDR bus & RAM.
