While I love Zip, I've never been happy with any of Iomega's Jaz 
products. Too expensive for a drive/cartridge combo that gives you too 
little space and accesses too slow.

You may find that you'll have much better luck if you use a drive that 
doesn't require an adapter, as well. In particular, USB->SCSI has 
always been dicey at best.
