New travelstars (and other hard drives) have what they call "fluid dynamic bearings" which are insanely quiet compared to the older technology. (me being an electrical rather than mechanical engineer, please don't ask me to explain why) all I know is that my old Dell laptop had a 6gb travelstar which sounded like LAX on a busy day and I have to put my ear against the case of my 667 (DVI) to hear anything (thats with the 40gb drive offered by apple)
