As I mentioned to the other lister regarding the choice between a PowerBook
G4 and an iBook G3, I'll do the same for you:

Pros:
1) Large 14.1" TFT screen at 1024x768 resolution - useful for proof reading
documents and working with Photoshop, Pagemaker etc.
2) Full-size keyboard
3) Expansion bays - accommodates second battery, extra hard drive, VST Zip,
VST CD-RW or Superdisk modules
4) Infrared connectivity
5) 2xUSB, 2xFireWire ports
6) VGA port
7) System bus speed of 100MHz
8) Audio In & Out minijacks - useful for recording audio and playback to
external speakers.
9) Looks professional and sleek.
10) S-Video output for presentations on TV sets & projectors.
11) 10/100 Ethernet port
12) 1GB max RAM (2 slots)
13) Upgradeable CPU daughterboard to PowerPC G4 class.
14) Hard drive easily upgradeable due to design of PowerBook.
15) A second battery can be inserted into the expansion bay, giving a
theoretical maximum of 10 hours battery life (real world: approx 7 - 8
hours)
Cons:
1) Large size, can be rather bulky

iBook G3 (Colored model)
366/466 PowerPC G3
256k Cache at processor speed
64MB RAM (Standard)
CD or DVD-ROM
Pros:
1) Tough polycarbonate case
2) Longer battery life than a 1-battery Pismo.
Cons:
1) Slower 66MHz system bus
2) Smaller 256k backside cache for the CPU than the PowerBook Pismo
3) No VGA output to external monitors
4) 1 USB & 1 Firewire port only.
5) Max RAM expansion limited to the 1 available slot.
6) Running OSX on this iBook is not practical as the desktop resolution is
800x600 & OSX typically needs more screen real estate.
7) CPU is not upgradeable as it is soldered to the board.
8) Difficult to upgrade hard drive.
9) No audio in.
I think the results speak for themselves. The bottom line is cost. If the
iBook is enough for your needs and fits your budget, then there is no
reason why you should not get one. If you do plan to move on to OSX
eventually, the fact that the Pismo can handle more RAM may prove to be the
deciding factor in your choice.

I recently read the debate on behalf of a lister deciding between the
newer PowerBooks and iBooks. My conundrum is a bit different.
I am debating which is better: a Pismo PowerBook or an older model iBook
(colors). If anyone could add to this please let me know. I am wanting
to give my current Wallstreet to my girlfriend (who is
computer-challenged) for Christmas. Doing marketing work and having
friends at the office who are fellow Mac users, I want to upgrade to a
'Book with firewire. If there are any advantages between the 'Books,
please tell.
