they offered me that option as well...when i sent my ibook in....i declined...i dont keep any mission critical data on my laptop....doesn't seem worth it, i'd probably end up formatting it within a month anyway. what they WERE going to do, was hold CC # for 50.00, to do the phone trouble shooting...because its out of the 90 days.....but i called em back, and told them "its a hardware problem. the display shuts on and off, and if i shake the screen, it turns back on." she said the name of the procedure, but its actually a practiced thing...they can skip the 50 dollar retainer, and just call it a hardware issue, and send the box...which is what we did.
got it back, and the mouse was finicky... apple replaced the inverter board, and the motherboard... i thought they didnt connect the mouse cable up well when they replaced the logic board, but he did some trouble shooting with me anyway (tho not supposed to i think) and ended up resetting the pmu, and i was set. not really specific to the pismo, but i thought i'd share my experience. they didnt have to move data anyway.
