... the bad news is that when I took a horrendous spill on a platform on
the Washington Metro Tuesday night (they'd just washed the platform,
which quickly glazed over with ice. Warning signs downstairs, but not
where the problem was. Any personal injury lawyers out there?????) , I
fell partially on my hip and elbow, but my Pismo (in briefcase) took
some of the impact as well.
No problems until Thursday night, when things started getting screwy.
Here are the symptoms:
1. couldn't get web access with Netscape, Mozilla or IE: in fact, they
wouldn't even fully load. I checked my TCP/IP settings, and they'd
mysteriously switched to another set.
2. I ran Norton Utilities -- Disk Doctor did fix several settings
(forgot to save the report). When I then did Speed Disk, it ground
to a halt as it was defragmenting, and there was a mysterious blank
message box on the screen, and the rotating disk on the cursor had
changed to some strange looking thing I'd never seen before --
looked like a few random pixels.
3. I reinstalled 9.2, and when I tried to rebuild the desktop, it
never got beyond the recording file comments stage..
4. I opened it up to see if there was anything obvious, such as loose
RAM, loose connectors, etc. Nothing obvious.
I'm about to give up, and am really short of $ right now, so I'd like to
avoid massive repair bills if at all possible. Anyone have any ideas
before I pack it in?
