Having been on the other end of 'But I followed the directions *exactly* and it doesn't work!' line from any number of allegedly intelligent users, I'd greatly expect it's the former. 'But I followed the directions *exactly* ...' is usually followed by a dialog like: Me: "So lets' just start at the beginning...did you do step 1?" U: "Yes, just like it says..I did everything!" Me: "Ok, let's just be sure, because I'm slow and remembering what the dialogs look like from memory. After step 1 it says you gotta do step 2...did you do this? What did that dialog say?" U: "No, I figured I didn't need to do that because I was wearing a blue sweater and it was Wednesday..." (or some equally *totally* unrelated thing that they thought was important) Me: <sigh> Now, if they can go wrong installing Acrobat Reader like this, do you trust 'em to muck about with firmware?? (Seriously...our instructions for installing Acrobat Reader are like: 'Double-click on the icon. Click on Next and yes when it asks. Wait for it to finish.' Users muck it up regularly...8-0 We call it 'monkey-clicking'.
