Laurent, Nope. Firewire is not involved here. However, the PCMCIA interface has also been used by the "Kanguru" external drives, among others. The device shipped with a (floppy) disk of drivers for WinNT, 95, and DOS, but no drivers were needed for Macintosh. I've also just tested the drive on a Powerbook 3400 under OS 8.6, and it works fine there. It begins to sound like drivers are not built-in to Jaguar, and I guess this is such a niche market that there never will be any.
