Jim, I have one of these drive shuttles - and indeed it used to work just fine under OS 9. Now, I haven't used mine in ages (laziness, I guess) but I'm beginning to suspect that OS X isn't recognizing the card as something with which it needs to do something. You know how when you connect a FireWire drive the volumes on it get automatically mounted? Well, I think that perhaps automount is run when you insert this card. Two things, the first of which is relatively simple. Have you tried restarting your powerbook with that card inserted?
