She is definitely still using Mac OS9, so it was tough for me to remember, and I had to boot up an OS9 to remember that there was no PPPoE in there, and the support is installed from the Verizon CDROM when all goes well. We have tried reinstalling Mac OS9 from software restore cd and then tried to install dsl after that, but that did not work either. I'm going to recommend the Linksys router as the best workaround for now, since there is consensus that it will solve the problem and is relatively cheap. Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone.
