I am sorry I can't offer any help, but in my experience usb printers from HP suffer from very poor drivers in OS X. I am having lots of trouble with an "all-on-one" psc 750 and my mac running 10.2.1. More often than not, the driver cannot find the printer, although it is on and connected (as proved by scanning, which works fine). A friend of mine has had similar problems with another model (officejet g55, 10.2.3). In her case, only M$ Word seems to print reasonably fast, other apps like preview take minutes for a single page :(
In both cases, we have been using the latest hp drivers. My first inclination was to try Gimp-print open-source drivers, but even those did not work in my case or my friend's (printer is recognized on installation, but is never found when actually printing). So I'm having a very bad time with hp printers.
