Fair point. I actually went to high school in the Detroit area, then 
lived in East Lansing for almost 10 years as I finished undergrad and 
grad school.

When I first moved to California (LA area) everyone here warned me that 
this was a big city and I had to be careful. When I told them I was 
from Detroit, I usually got asked: "Do you have a gun?"

Some stereotypes are hard to shake...
