I thought it might be a hoax but I noted that there are a number of legit
eBay members who bid high. My guess is that he set excessively high so that
it would not sell on eBay. Then he could contact the high bidder directly
and avoid eBay's fee's.

Even if this is still the case, I can't believe that issue, with those
signatures could possibly be worth so much. I'd rather sink my money into
more hardware. But I suppose if you're willing to blow that kinda dough on
some autographs, you have plenty left to blow on other toys.
