Maya, If you're running 9.2 you can always boot from the restore CD and do a "restore" of the operating system. This will re-install the OS but won't touch any of the third party extensions or control panels you've added. It also won't touch anything on the disk (like your files, etc.). It just gives you a new, fresh copy of the OS. Just be careful and double check all of the options when doing a restore. Make sure that you don't select the option for a clean install as that would wipe the disk before the restore.
Of course, before you do that you might want to try another disk utility like Disk Warrior.
