AVI is a file format. QuickTime, without any modifications, will read AVI files. but there are many, many different codecs used to compress the video in an AVI file. Some of these codecs exist on the mac, but many do not. If you go into QuickTime Player and open the movie, choose 'Get Movie Properties' from the 'Movie' menu. One of the menus on the resulting window will tell you what codec was used. These days, many AVIs are what are called 'DiVX' movies. This has nothing to do with the DVD competitor from 1998-1999, though. You'll just need the correct DiVX decoder (check versiontracker) and maybe DiVX Doctor (also on versiontracker). otherwise... it may take some digging to get that movie to work. it's worth noting that Microsoft no longer supports the AVI format officially, and instead prefers ASF. -- G-Books is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
