The .avi format(s) is(are) a mess... Yes QuickTime can play .avi much of the time, if it has the right codec available. Not all .avi codecs seem to be available for the Mac. **sigh** I just spent a bunch of time trying to find a codec that would translate some .avi from a Latvian web site. After rooting around for a couple of hours, I found a codec that gave me poor (better than "no") playback. My sweetie went to her peecee to look at the same site and RealPlayer played a full-screen version of the stream that was higher quality than my 6" square QuickTime playback. Yet other .avi movies play back on my G3 with no problems.
