Instantaneous literally means instantaneous... I type 'fsck' or 'fsck -y' in the terminal, hit return, and the next prompt appears right away. > It doesn't report "the disk XXX appears to be ok"? After it does it's thing type "reboot" Ahhh... THAT produced some results! Several "checking this/ checking that" messages and the "The volume Mac OS X appears to be OK" message. Previously, I have only tried from a terminal. Call me stupid, but shouldn't I get something similar when I run it from Terminal? Thanks though... it got results. Not I'm just puzzled about the terminal. > GREAT..but what is it??? :-) fsck is a basic file-system consistency checker... it does basic checks to make sure that, say, a the space alotted to a file isn't listed both as free and as belonging to that file. Think of it as a command-line Disk First aid, sorta. It's always said that running fsck -y is a good idea before any installations or other funny business, which is why I brought this up in the first place...
