Listers, So. I decided to try out the pretty USB 2.5" drive enclosure model that computergeeks.com have had on sale recently, the VE-009NHD. It's made by V-link (www.v-link.com.cn), comes with a USB cable, floppy disk of windows drivers, and some screws. It's a USB 1.1 enclosure, not USB 2, but that was ok, since we Mac-folk aren't offered USB 2.0 by Apple anyway. I put a known-working hard drive inside and gave it a try.
Big disappointment, despite the pretty color and styling. The enclosure is not mountable under Mac OS 9 nor Jaguar on my Pismo. I could not persuade Windows 98 or 2000 machines to use the included drivers, either. But since I'm not a windoze guy, maybe I didn't know how to properly install the drivers. Nevertheless, for Mac-folk... Avoid this enclosure. The same company makes a Model VE-007NHD, and I'd be suspicious of that enclosure, too. For what it's worth, these enclosures were not actually advertised as being Mac-compatible. I was just trying. --Jim. -- G-Books is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
