Hey Bruce, thanks for chiming in here.

I do find drivers offered by the geeks for the VE-007NHD, some of which
look like the very drivers I tried to install on the windoze machines,
without success. But this is the first time I've seen some drivers
being labeled for the Mac. There are two:
       "PL2307Driver"
       "PL2307AIM"
But all of these, windoze and mac, are labeled as being for the
VE-007NHD, not the VE-009NHD.

Maybe they'll work for this enclosure anyway. But what do I do with
these two Mac drivers? Are they for OS 8? OS 9? OS X? Well, you
said you used them on your Pismo, so they must be for OS 9 or X. I
dropped them into the OS 9 system folder and restarted in 9.2.2.

Extension Manager shows they are active, in the extensions folder.
Then I plugged in a 2GB drive in the VE-009NHD enclosure (a drive that
I have proven to work in one of my other enclosures). First thing I
find is that my XLR8 mouse freezes, though the track pad works. But
the system is also frozen. I used command-option-powerkey to force
quit the "DVD Autolauncher" which for some reason was running. Now the
system works, but the mouse is still dead. No drive is mounted, and
Drive Setup 1.9.2 and 2.0.7 do not find a USB drive.

So I pulled out the XLR8 mouse and restarted, leaving the VD-009NHD
plugged into my Pismo. Now the system freezes on startup before even
getting around to loading the INITs. So I restart the Pismo, without
the VE-009NHD connected. The system starts up fine. Everything works.
I plug in the drive, and the system freezes until I force-quit the
"DVD autolauncher". Now the system works, but the drive is dead. No
drive is mounted, and Drive Setup doesn't find a USB drive.

Apparently, those drivers offered for the VE-007NHD do not work with
the VE-009NHD in MacOS 9.

Are you sure these are the same drivers that worked for you? Did you
have a VE-009NHD or a VE-007NHD?

Thanks for trying to help, in any event!
