I bought a Transpod and while the sound quality ain't great, for me the
convenience of the Transpod makes up for any sonic deficiencies. Plus my
car is old and noisy, so I can't hear the static and crackle when I'm
rolling anyhow. : -)

It comes with both a fixed mount with a power cord, and a standalone
swivel bracket-powerplug which plugs right into the lighter. The second
thingy there is what I use as I can just pop the whole thing out of my
car, or into my wife's car if I feel like sharing, in an instant. Not
having any wires dangling is great, I'm about fed up with all the power
cords I have rolling about my car's floor. I also like being able to
slide the iPod into and out of the Transpod instantly too.

For the price I paid ($70) I'm satisfied:

Complaints so far? Well how easily one can un-tune it bugs me. The
adjustment knob sticks out pretty far on the RH side, so just brushing
against it can result in losing the signal. Also, it takes some fiddling
to get a clear signal, not something one should be doing whilst hurtling
down the road. Perhaps a better location relative to my car's antenna
might help, as my lighter socket is down pretty far on the console. I
wonder if there is any way to re-orient the thing's built-in antenna to
improve reception? The switches on it are kinda cheesy too, though
overall it feels pretty solid and well-made.

I envisioned something like the Transpod but with a lineout socket, but
I've not seen anything yet. I don't have line inputs on my car's audio
anyway . . .

Sounds like a hacked Transpod to me, got any links? It would be nice to
have _both_ options, wired and wireless, just in case I might use them
someday. I _really_ must take this thing apart to see what's inside.

Hmmm, how about a 2.4ghz audio transmitter combined with power at the
iPod (ala Transpod), then a 2.4ghz receiver plugged into the line-in on
the car's audio system . . . hey, nobody steal that idea! Oh crap, I just
realized an addition like that could be combined with wifi (AirPort!) and
holy-moly, there you go with a networkable iPod/inet music
player/transmitter/receiver-thingy.

Maybe Apple will build something like that as iPod II? : -)
