A keyboard command is preferable in this instance.
I paid my $7 for Key Xing, a pref pane that lets you program the function keys. So in addition to F12 being "Eject," I have F11 for "Sleep," F10 to open or switch to Camino, and F9 to open Mail. F5 through F8 are for business apps, etc. But I also use the Power Button - "S" sequence to sleep as well. It's very fast.
