Power and charge control is working now. It's independent of the main processor. I guess it wasn't working because data on the PRAM was messed up and that was the reason the power circuits would not go on. If you press the power button for 5 seconds with the power on it should also go off because that is also hard-wired.Hi all, Just to update everyone who helped. I tried booting with the PRAM battery disconnected with no help. After reconnecting the battery and hitting the power button, the drives spun up but no chime or screen. I then hit the reset button and the computer spins down, hit the power button again and the drives spin up again with no other signs of life.
I then removed all power again and removed and reseated the processor board, RAM, and hard drive. Reconnected batteries and AC and had the same results.
So now, the power button causes the fans and drives to spin up and the resetThe hard drive works by itself if there's power available. What I don't understand is the fan spining up - it only does that on the very rare ocasions the processor gets too hot. Does the screen lamp go ON? If it does then the processor is working.
button makes them spin down. I tried a variety of key combos including
apple>option>O>F, apple>option>P>R, etc...
There's no point in doing that. The Pismo works perfectly without a PRAM battery. Mine doesn't have one, the only consequence is that the time gets reset if I remove the both the main battery and power adapter and I cannot hot-swap batteries.I may have a chance to swap PRAM batteries from an identical Pismo this weekend,
You can keep the PRAM battery disconnected it you're not sure if it's OK. If it's damaged it may keep your Pismo from booting up.
The 2 things I'd do now would be:
- try using another RAM module (ordinary SODIM, also used on most laptop Pentium III, should be widely available on any notebook shop, 100MHz and 133MHz versions both work. Note that Pentium IV use a diferent kind of RAM)
- try using another processor board (I doubt that the processor is damaged but you never know)
Joaquim
P.S. my Pismo was dead when I bought it (for a very good price)
