Trying to get this Lombard which I just got off the swap list onto my home network. It's a Belkin wireless router, which I know is working properly because my i-mac with a wireless usb adapter can see it just fine. The router has the latest firmware upgrade.
I've tried both Airport and Orinoco drivers. With both, it reports the card is off and no networks can be seen. The Orinoco gives an error message, "incompatible station firmware," which I suppose must be referring to the card's firmware, since there is no base station at all as far as the card is concerned. But, there's no way to upgrade the firmware on the Bronze card. As far as I knew, the only difference between the Orinoco/Lucent/Proxim/whoever they are this month's bronze, silver and gold cards are the encryption capabilities...which shouldn't even matter as far as being able to see my network, since encryption is disabled. Searching the web all afternoon didn't provide any answers, other than a brief mention somewhere that the poster was unable to get a bronze card to work in his Lombard or Pismo and assumed it was because the bronze card was "too old" to work on 802.11b so he successfully used a Lucent gold card. Any other ideas? Is it possible the card itself is bad? I got it off e-Bay, but it was from a reputable seller and was sold as new. One of the two LEDs on the card lights up when it's in the PC card slot. Also, Apple System Profiler sees the card. I've twiddled endlessly with the settings, to no avail. Am I missing something?
