Trying to get this Lombard which I just got off the swap list onto my home network. It's a Belkin wireless router, which I know is working properly because my i-mac with a wireless usb adapter can see it just fine. The router has the latest firmware upgrade.
I've tried both Airport and Orinoco drivers. With both, it reports the card is off and no networks can be seen. The Orinoco gives an error message, "incompatible station firmware," which I suppose must be referring to the card's firmware, since there is no base station at all as far as the card is concerned. But, there's no way to upgrade the firmware on the Bronze card.
As far as I knew, the only difference between the Orinoco/Lucent/Proxim/whoever they are this month's bronze, silver and gold cards are the encryption capabilities...which shouldn't even matter as far as being able to see my network, since encryption is disabled.
The difference between Silver and Gold is encryption. I think the Bronze is limited to 2Mbps. You could try configuring the AP to limit the comm rate to 2Mbps. My SMC can be so configured but I don't know about others.
It's also possible the software drivers simply won't work with the Bronze because it's been orphaned (speculation).
