Most combo drives work fine in the Pismo DVD "caddy". Check out www.xlr8yourmac.com in the Drive compatibility database for Pismo. Lots of different makes and models work, including the Teac DW-224E you mentioned. I found a Samsung SN-324B that is a 24x10x24x8x combo that works great in my Pismo: writes and rewrites in Toast at full speeds, DVDs play great and it's bootable; works in both 9 and Jaguar. In 9 I found the Toast CD extension to be more compatible than the Apple one; in Jaguar there's no problem. If you have an original Matshita DVD in the Pismo, you could consider getting a Matshita combo, which would let you use the original faceplate on the combo; otherwise it may be a bit different.
