neither slot is "limited" really.

Apple's specs are predicated on the largest available chip that worked, as tested when 
the product was released. Apple doesn't update its specs as bigger chips become 
available.

almost everyone finds that two 256MB chips will get them to 512MB, though results 
anywhere between 192 and 512 aren't uncommon.
