Hi all, I just bought a 500MHz Pismo to replace my ThinkPad (after having been on hiatus away from MacOS for 3-4 years; I looked at MacOS 10.2.6 a couple of weeks ago and love it).
I'm wondering if I should bite the bullet and get the 900MHz G3 upgrade *now*, while it's still on offer. All I will be doing *officially* on this PowerBook is writing my new book (using OpenOffice.org with Apple's X11 server) and some light programming tasks (machine vision algorithms, but not in realtime, so speed isn't a major issue). I already played with this mix of applications on an old 333MHz Workgroup Server left over at work, and that machine is fast enough, so I'm sure the Pismo will be even better. However, unofficially <g> I will be running SNES9X and MAME on this machine also, and who knows? maybe someone will give me a copy of that Clive Barker game. So I'm curious to hear from 900MHz Pismo owners - is it visibly, noticeably faster? Battery life not impacted too much? Not too hot? (The main gripe I have about my ThinkPad is that it gets too warm while I'm typing, and my fingers get sweaty). -- Lewin A.R.W.
