It's very hard to respond accurately to this question. *My* feeling is that I would not pay much extra for a faster drive. Although by upgrading the drive you could improve platter->RAM transfer speeds by up to 2x, in practice I think it won't make much difference to your everyday life unless your everyday life involves, say, DV capture or something of the kind.
