I've recently replaced the internal drive in my G4 Powerbook 800 (OS 10.2.6) and I'm now trying to use the old 40MB drive in an external housing. I've bought a housing with a USB 2 connector (another story) and fitted the drive. Do I need to set the jumpers to force it to be a slave drive (or set to Cable Connect) or is this just a PC thing? The drive didn't show up on the desktop and then began an ominous clicking sound. Does anyone have any experience of this?
I have an external drive in a firewire case, so my situation is not exactly like yours. However, most of the time, the jumpers on drives in these cases need to be set to master and not to slave or cable select. Hopefully you have a USB 2.0 CardBus card to use with this drive otherwise your performance will be quite lackluster.
