I can't say whether Cable Connect will work, but in any case if it is set to Master and if it is the only drive it should work. Do you have sufficient power for the drive? The clicking could be because the drive needs a lot of power to spin up, and when it tries it can't get enough, and hence decides to turn it self off. Do you have an external power supply for the drive? I'd ditch that USB interface for a FireWire interface. You won't be happy with the speed of USB. Waaaaay tooooo sloooooow!
