Hi folks. I'm new to the list, so please accept my apologies if these questions have been asked and answered already.
1. I'm looking to get a wireless PCMCIA card for my Wallstreet (which is running OS X). I know from the recent discussion here and what I've seen elsewhere that the Orinoco silver or gold will work in my machine, but I was wondering if anyone had come across any comprehensive list of other cards that were also compatible. I ask this not only because I want to shop around and compare prices but also because my local stores don't seem to carry the Orinoco card. I have found some good deals on cards by Lucent, D-Link, Linksys and the like, but of course they don't officially have any Mac support. Is a card just a card, or is there something Mac-specific I need to be looking for? 2. I'll also need a base station. I may have a line on an older Airport, as my father-in-law is thinking seriously about upgrading to Airport Extreme, but if this doesn't pan out I'll probably just buy the cheapest thing that will work. Can I use any of the available products from Linksys et al, or do I need something a little more specialized? And will my choice of base station affect the card I need to use? I don't know if it's relevant, but I should probably mention that the wireless base station will be functioning only to connect two Powerbooks to a pre-existing network which includes our desktops, ethernet-equipped printer and DSL modem. It will not need to function as a DHCP server, print server, or gateway to the internet; I've already got a wired router that does that. 3. My wife's laptop (which will be the other computer connecting wirelessly) is an iBook with an Airport card. Does this fact change any of the above? Thanks for any and all advice you can give, Mitch. -- G-Books is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
