I went to www.Macupdate.com as you suggested, found "Battery Reset" then was dismayed to see a bunch of reviews stating that this utility,specifically for G3's and Ibooks did not work for the folks writng the reviews.
I amglad it worked for you, but unfortunately it won't even install on my iBook, which is still sporting that infamous red X.
