iBook (Clamshell) - its descriptive, someone can look at it and go "Yeah, mine looks like that."
iMac (Colors), iMac DV, iMac Flat-panel, Power Mac G4 (PCI, AGP, Gigabit, Digital Audio, QuickSilver)
A person doesn't have to know a TON to determine what they, although they do have to know something, at least the year it was released, the dominant feature, or a cosmetic description.
When it came from "Series" of systems Apple has always been spotty, I am glad they dumped that part all together. The PowerBook 190 Series was the official name of the 190, however, they released the 190 while publicly stating that it would be the last 68K PowerBook as they released the PowerPC cousin, the 5300 Series at the same time.
Now the obvious answer is that the Series referred in each case to the PowerBook 5300, PowerBook 5300c, PowerBook 5300cs, PowerBook 5300ce models. But for the general public who looks at a 5300 and says, eh, a 5300 is a 5300 whether its a c, cs, ce, whatever. People can do that, and do exactly that with iMacs, but the "Series" label was always misleading in my mind, it made me think there would be more coming from that line, not that it was simply a header for feature variations.
