After days of struggling with OS 10.2.8 v.1, I gave up trying to fix the mess it was making of my Lombard and did an archive and re-install. Then I ran the 10.2.6 combo updater and I'm back to a stable state. I can run apps without the fear of my screen going all psychedelic on me. But, now I have a folder called "previous systems" on my hard drive. How do I get rid of the thing?
