There was a brief discussion a couple of weeks ago about the iTunes music store 'knowing' your country of origin, and accepting/rejecting your custom accordingly. Various people were wondering 'how does it know?'.

I have no idea if this is the answer, but I came across this website this afternoon:

They reckon their database is 97% accurate, which might explain the correspondent who was rejected by iTMS despite being in the USA.
