I solved the problem of the missing menu bar icons! With the help of a guy named Michael on the Apple discussions, here is the solution if you are having issues with your menu bar icons:
In "/Users/<yourname>/Library/Caches", delete everything In "/Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences", delete com.apple.systemuiserver.plist In "/Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences/ByHost", delete com.apple.systemuiserver.xxx.plist where 'xxx' is a 12 digit (hexadecimal) numeric string.
