Smilar problem installing Panther on my Lombard. Removing top slot RAM allowed the install to take place. More pertinent to your situation perhaps, I recently had a conversation with a Wallstreet owner who said this worked:
I read about someone installing XPostFacto on a Wallstreet and having video problems until they removed a video extension.
So, I restarted in OS 9.2.2, opened the Jaguar system library and removed the following extensions:
ATIRadeon, ATIRadeon8500, ATIRadeon8500DVDDriver, ATIRageProGA, ATIRage128, ATIRage128GA, ATIRage128DVDDriver,ATIRadeon8500GA, ATIRadeon8500GLDriver, ATIRadeon9700, ATIRagePro, ATIRage128GLDriver, ATIRadeon9700DVDDriver, ATIRadeon9700GA, ATIRadeon9700GLDriver, ATIRadeonGA, ATIRadeonGLDriver, and ATIRadeonDVDDriver.
Since removing these extensions, I've been able to repair permissions
for the first time, import folders of photos into iPhoto, create a Movie and
render it for 14 hours in Toast 6, and burn a DVD without a lock-up, color
vertical lines, or a black screen - Hooray! The newer video extensions
required for the newer Macs conflict with my older LT-G card. Been running for a week without problems.
Also, if you're running Jaguar, this might work for you:
1. Open Terminal (/Applications/Utilities/). 2. Type:
sudo mv /System/Library/Extensions/AppleNDRV/ATIDriver.bundle /Users/Shared/
Note: There is a space after "mv" and another after ".bundle".
3. Press Return. 4. Type: sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions 5. Press Return. 6. Restart the computer.
