This depends on which type of battery you're talking about. I think what you say is correct for Ni-Cads, but my understanding is that the life of Li-on batteries, as used in the pismo, is determined by the number of 'deep discharges', i.e. running the battery down fully. So it's better _not_ to let it run down fully any more than you have to. Sorry I can't provide a source for this claim; my PB, containing the relevant URL, is being fixed by Apple at the moment!
