I recently upgraded to Panther (10.3.2), and it's very nice. I'm
impressed with how much faster my Lombard seems. Only one problem: When I
run the Disk Utility to repair permissions, it runs for about a minute,
then hangs. The screen becomes dimmer, then dimmer still. I don't get the
Kernel Panic message, but the only thing that thaws the freeze is a restart.

Try the following:

Create a new user, give them admin rights, log off, log in as the new user and try this.

If it still hangs, try running it from the installer CD. If that fails run Disk repair while still booted from the CD and then try repair permissions.
