I used a plastic polish (available at most any auto parts store or 
boating supply) to clean up a badly scratched'n'scuffed first gen iPod 
(same material.) The abrasive 'grit' is superfine and once you've got it 
nicely polished it looks great. Such polishes cost perhaps $3 for a small 
bottle, try it in an inconspicuous area of the iBook to see if the result 
is acceptable.
